Module 3: Taking Your Seat. Advanced Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training

  • Roots and Wings Healing Arts (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Find YOUR teaching style!
This continuing portion of our Pre/Postnatal yoga teacher training is unique in the Boston region!

In Module 3 we'll expand upon the themes in Modules 1 and 2 and delve even deeper into the methodology of teaching pre and postnatal yoga. This weekend offers numerous opportunities to refine your teaching techniques as well as your overall focus as a yoga teacher in the pre/postnatal field.

Who is this training for?

This module is appropriate for anyone who has taken the prenatal module of the Om Birth teacher training. Taken another prenatal training or have a question? Drop us a line here

The workshop will include sections on:

  • How to “take your seat” as the teacher and create a nurturing and welcoming environment while still maintaining your position as guardian of safety.

  • Specifics of the Om Births style and philosophy around pre and postnatal yoga practice and mindfulness throughout the childbearing year and beyond.

  • Hand-on adjustments; learn specifics about physically adjusting the pregnant body. Some common do’s and don’ts as well as deepening your understanding of alignment and anatomy. Along with this will be an exploration of using props to enhance rather than just “prop up” certain postures.

  • Working with specialized populations - How to sequence for students with specific prenatal challenges such as Pubis Symphysis Dysfunction, or postnatal concerns such as Diastasis recti. We’ll explore more fully the causes of these and other challenges and learn how to prevent and protect against them

  • Sequencing for advanced students. Building off our discussion of special cases we’ll discuss and explore teaching more advanced postures such as deeper backbends and inversions to experienced students. Be prepared to have your own understanding of alignment in these postures challenged.

  • Yoga Nidra for Pregnancy, Birth and beyond. We’ll cover the impact of relaxation on the nervous system when pregnant and the importance of relaxation during the birth process. We’ll then walk through restorative postures appropriate for pregnancy. How to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and practice the key restorative yoga asanas for Pregnancy, Births and Motherhood.

This weekend is designed to fully certify prenatal teachers as Om Births Prenatal Yoga teachers, in the Om Births method and lineage. Completion of all 3 Modules and Practicum will allow students to apply to Yoga Alliance for the RPYT designation.

$597 for each weekend or $1650 for all 3 modules

Babywearing 101

Learn how to wear your little one comfortably and safely!

katyf.jpg

Babywearing is a longstanding tradition in many cultures, but it has only fairly recently caught on in the US. It allows caregivers the freedom to go about their day while keeping baby (and even bigger kids) close and safe. This workshop provides an opportunity for expecting and new parents to learn the basics of babywearing.

This workshop will include:

  • Safety basics for babywearing
  • An introduction to different types of carriers
  • Customizing the fit of a soft structured (buckle) carrier so that both you and baby are comfortable
  • “What to do with all that fabric” - learning to use your stretchy or woven wrap.

We will go into further detail about all sizes of woven wraps and ring slings, as there tends to be a steeper learning curve here, and the possibilities for usage are endless!

Many of us (myself included) registered for a baby carrier without much knowledge of them, and it’s easy to get frustrated. So join me as we dive into a fun afternoon of babywearing!

*I will have a good number of demo carriers on hand, but please bring your own carrier(s), especially if you have specific questions about them. If you’re not bringing your baby, feel free to bring a (preferably floppy) stuffed animal!!

About Katy

Katy is a graduate of the 4 Pillars of Freedom Teacher Training (RYT 200) and the Om Births Prenatal Teacher Training. She was introduced to yoga a decade ago to build physical strength following an injury, and through her practice discovered that she could truly strengthen her mind, body and soul by practicing yoga both on and off the mat. She brings a deep understanding of the human body and its potential, and believes that everything we need is within us NOW! She offers her students a creative and safe asana practice with an emphasis on proper alignment and the importance of finding sthira and sukha (strength and ease) when faced with a challenge.

Katy is Mother to her beautiful daughter Chloe, who sometimes joins her for Baby and Me classes.

Birth Circle: A Birth Story Gathering

Share your birth story and meet other mamas in this FREE and supportive event!

pablo (11).png

A Birth Circle is a casual fun event where women gather, in a safe space, to share positive aspects of their birth story (natural, medicated cesarean, hospital, birth center or home birth) without judgment.

Although there may be negative aspects of your birth story which you are welcome to share, this circle is not the place to process intense trauma. The key is that there is no judgment and others are there to listen, hear, and talk about birth. Birth Circles are open to women who plan to get pregnant, have given birth, grandmothers, sisters, and doulas. Ask each other questions, learn from other moms/moms to be, laugh and cry about all things birth in this open and warm environment.
